My research is closely connected to public debate, policy engagement, and knowledge exchange on Ukraine, Russia’s war against Ukraine, European security, and the politics of identity. I aim to make research on Ukraine accessible to wider audiences and contribute to informed discussion about Ukraine’s place in Europe and the changing international order.
I have delivered public talks on Ukraine, Russia’s war, identity, historical memory, and international politics. These have included events at Nottingham Central Library, the Nottingham branch of the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain (AUGB), Linbo Hu Lectures in Shanghai, and InterNations Brussels, engaging civic, community, and international audiences. I am currently working with a team of local activists to develop a podcast in partnership with the AUGB Nottingham.
My policy engagement is informed by internships at the Parliaments of Ukraine and Canada. In Ukraine, I contributed to the assessment of draft legislation in relation to EU law and prepared briefings for Members of Parliament. These experiences strengthened my interest in the relationship between research, policymaking, public diplomacy, and European integration. I am also a member of the Expert Group on the Rights of Ukrainian Citizens in the UK (Office of the Ukrainian Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights).
I contribute to conferences, roundtables, and academic networks focused on Ukraine and European security. I have been involved in the University of Nottingham’s annual Ukraine Roundtable and currently serve as co-convenor of the British International Studies Association’s East Europe and Eurasian Security Working Group. I am a full member of the Professional Government Association, a non-governmental organisation that promotes civil service reform, reconstruction, and international advocacy for Ukraine through networks of reform-minded professionals and European hubs.
My impact work draws on research into Ukrainian national identity, foreign policy, and European security. Through public engagement and knowledge exchange, I seek to promote a deeper understanding of Ukraine’s post-1991 transformation, wartime identity change, displacement, European integration, and the future of European security.
